| James Marshall [Interview] | ||
| "The relationship portrayed in the delightful George and Martha books reveals James Marshall's insightful understanding of the ups and downs of true friendship. A stunning ability to capture complex emotions in simply drawn faces is reflected in all of his work, whether the subjects are hippos, foxes, or people. Many fans feel Marshall's brilliant illustrations received unjust neglect by the children's book establishment, but while Marshall won few awards in his lifetime, his work has always been--and will always be--loved and adored by children and grownups alike." | ||
| GEORGE AND MARTHA: THE COMPLETE STORES OF TWO BEST FRIENDS
25th Anniversary compilation edition of all 35 stories with a forward by his friend, Maurice Sendak. This book is a tribute to James Marshall who died in 1992. The humor is wonderful, the pictures are large and deceptively simple what I call complex simplicity at its best. This book was a treat for me to read. My children enjoyed each of these books as young children and the laughter that I experienced while reading every page of this completion brought back wonderful memories and non stop James Marshall.
