Rodman Philbrick talks about "Freak The
Mighty." [More BULLY Books]
"It was my privilege to know an extraordinary young man
who lived with a rare spinal condition that meant he would never be much
more than three feet tall. Despite severe medical problems and an uncertain future,
my brilliant young friend faced life with unconquerable spirit.
His remarkable personality inspired me to write
an entirely fictional story called Freak the Mighty."
Award-winning writer Rodman Philbrick has been writing
since the age of sixteen. He has published more than a dozen novels
for young adult and adult readers, as well as many short stories, articles,
and reviews. His first novel for young readers, Freak the Might, published
in 1993, received numerous awards and honors including the prestigious
California Young Reader’s Medal, the Arizona Reader’s Medal, the Maryland
Children’s Book Award, the Nebraska Golden Sower Award, and a Judy Lopez
Memorial Award Honor. In addition, it was named an ALA Best Book
for Young Adults and an ALA Recommended Book for Reluctant Young Adult
Readers. Max the Mighty, the sequel to Freak the Mighty,
is now available.

film titled The Mighty, starring a cast of prominent film actors including

Kieran Culkin.
